Statement

Throughout American history, our relatively young country has faced a drastic progression in technology, culture, industry, and society. As shifts in our social landscape have been made, once-prominent structures of our past become disregarded for something new. The memories, stories and history die as these places sit in a state of abandonment. Over the past five years and counting, I have taken it upon myself to travel and document forgotten places all over the United States to bring recognition to the transformation these places have gone through over time. It is important to see what we have left behind with the constant decision that is often made in construction to build something entirely new rather than to restore, repurpose, or preserve. With my work, the photograph acts as the barest minimum state of preservation with the idea that the singular step of an image can create inspiration for a more dramatic shift towards a better future in historical awareness. Today, the various environments stand as a time capsule where I experience a point in life that no longer exists, the remnants of a past America.
