First Year Fellows in Creative Entrepreneurship

新沙巴体育投注_足球比分直播-平台*网址’S First Year Fellows in Creative Entrepreneurship is a year-long program for incoming first-year students focused on integrating studio research with emergent technologies, project-based learning, professional practice, and financial literacy. This community will allow you to explore the entrepreneurial mindset and gain the knowledge and skills to propel your studies at 新沙巴体育投注_足球比分直播-平台*网址 and help to prepare you for a wide range of creative professional careers that support a purposeful and successful life.

Who can apply?

Entrepreneurial minded students of all interests and backgrounds can apply to be a part of the First Year Fellows program.  First Year students who have been admitted to 新沙巴体育投注_足球比分直播-平台*网址 for Fall 2023 are eligible to apply for the program.      

Program Highlights

  • Enrollment in co-taught First Year 新沙巴体育投注_足球比分直播-平台*网址 classes that examine entrepreneurial and professional practices.  
  • Special access to Make Cool Stuff Laboratory in Leake Hall through sign-up process 
  • Fellows Talks with entrepreneurs & industry professionals
  • Fall and spring field trips that emphasize the creative industries (all transportation, meals, lodging included) *dependent on 新沙巴体育投注_足球比分直播-平台*网址 operational mode.  
  • A Live Learn Community in Leake Hall
  • Course-specific Materials Fund ($250 per semester)
  • Low faculty-to-student ratio- approximately 10 students to 1 faculty member
  • Financial Wellness and Professional Practice Workshops 

Live/ Learn Community- What does that mean?

Students selected for this experience will live together in Leake Hall, be enrolled in entrepreneurial-focused First Year 新沙巴体育投注_足球比分直播-平台*网址 classes, and participate in co-curricular programming specifically designed to support budding entrepreneurship. A designated community just for FYF students.

Application Considerations:

Courses for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024

FF 120B Color/Design/Pattern 3 Credits
Patterns are everywhere around us: embedded in surfaces, situated in screens, and emerging from everyday interaction, connection, and communication. In this immersive color and design course, students attend to pattern in all its physical and metaphorical manifestations in order to explore the ways in which image and idea emerge from the organization of form and the interaction of color. Using iterative and experimental processes, students engage with contemporary notions of visual literacy, abstraction, composition, and cultural agency – ? in order to deepen their understanding of color and design while developing their own visual language.

FF 130A Prototype/Situate/Fabricate 3 Credits
Contemporary artists and designers create, represent, respond to, and reflect – on form, function and structures in space – by prototyping their ideas, by situating themselves and the objects they make in real and imagined worlds, and by fabricating forms that address real-world problems or that prompt us to articulate new ones. As developing artists and designers, students in this course create, represent, respond, and reflect in order to prototype, situate, and fabricate structures in space. Students experience these ways of working through additive and subtractive fabrication, digital and analog approaches, engagement with diverse materials, and research of ecological, social, and cultural implications of the impact on the built world.
