The exhibition by Chloe Mosbacher will be on view from January 24 - February 18 in the Pinkard Gallery, and will have an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, February 4.  In Mind's Eye, I have rendered a series of worlds in paint that animate and dramatize the intensity of feelings as well as narrativizing distinct points of development in one's life. The exhibition features a set of complex figurative paintings that are deeply personal, as I depict myself and my loved ones in surreal settings shaped and distorted by different mental and emotional states. The paintings function as a set of collages and transparent images overlaid on top of one-another, evoking a sense of multiplicity - which to her, portrays the idea that several events - or realities are simultaneously. With this technique, I aim to blur the lines between figure and ground within the picture plane to express how our internal and external landscapes are wholly interconnected. The figures within each painting are used as guises representing various emotional states felt in moments of privacy or alternatively representing different stages within one’s life, such as states of profound presence, existential questioning and searching for meaning. This is a Student Space Gallery exhibition. For more information about the SSG program and how to apply for a solo-exhibition, please visit mica.edu/ssg.
